Who we serve

College students, especially first-generation, low-income, Black, HBCU and underrepresented students.

And, increasingly, K–12 students, families and graduates.

The EFF story

Five movements, one promise.

  1. Pain into purpose

    A student nearly left college, and decided to build the support system she had needed.

  2. One barrier, one response

    Early direct service proved the model: tuition help, toys, books, school supplies, groceries, affirmations and campus care.

  3. The FAMU blueprint

    Florida A&M University became the first chapter and helped create the blueprint for campus-based dropout prevention.

  4. A national movement

    Scholarships, chapters, ambassadors, national leadership and 501(c)(3) status turned EFF into a national movement.

Our founder

Shayna Vincent

Founder & Executive Director

Shayna entered college without strong guidance on FAFSA, scholarships or financial support. She lived with ADHD, anxiety, depression and a learning disability, left college more than once, returned, and graduated from Florida A&M University in 2025. EFF is built around the students who are where she was.

EFF was not created as a generic scholarship brand. It was created from lived experience with the gaps that make students leave school, and a conviction that those gaps can be met before a student disappears.

From one post to a movement.

  1. The first post

    EFF's account begins: minority and low-income students should have access to emergency funding. Volunteers and board members are invited in.

  2. 200+ toys and books

    Volunteers deliver more than 200 toys and books to K–5 students at FAMU Developmental Research School.

  3. Founders Day

    Esther Funds Foundation is formally founded. Within weeks the community raises close to $500 toward one student's tuition balance.

  4. The first chapter

    Florida A&M University charters EFF's first collegiate chapter, the blueprint for every chapter since.

  5. Beyond Florida

    UNC Charlotte becomes the second chapter and the first outside Florida.

  6. 501(c)(3)

    EFF announces federal recognition as a 501(c)(3) public charity.

  7. Every public college in Tallahassee

    With Florida State chartered, EFF is present at FAMU, FSU and Tallahassee State College.

    EFF applications, emergency aid, external scholarships, uploads and status tracking open in one place.

Faith foundation

Faith beside the help, never instead of it.

EFF is a Christ-centered community. Prayer and encouragement stand beside money, food, housing support, mentoring, tools and advocacy. Every chapter has a Director of Ministry, and Esther 4:14 is the verse EFF was founded on.
