Money and Tomorrow

Matthew 6:25–34 · Worry about money, food and the future

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

Matthew 6:34 (KJV)

Before you start

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus speaks to ordinary people about everyday worry: food, clothes, tomorrow. He points to birds and flowers to show how God cares, and calls His hearers to seek God's kingdom first.

Read Matthew 6:25–34 aloud from any translation. Invite volunteers to read; never put anyone on the spot.

Icebreaker · 5 minutes

What's the most creative cheap meal you've made in college?

  2. What two pictures from nature does He use?
  3. What does He say to seek first (verse 33)?

Interpret · what did it mean?

  1. Is Jesus saying not to plan? How is worry different from wise planning?
  2. Why does worry about tomorrow steal today?

Apply · what does it ask of us?

  1. What money worry is weighing on you? Can you name it and give it to God?
  2. What is one practical step (financial aid, a budget, REACH) you can take this week?
